Persuasive Writing

This term we have been learning about persuasive writing. I chose to do my writing about why kid should get out doors more. Here it is.

Why Kids Should Get Outdoors More

These days technology does everything for us! It makes everyone so lazy! In this text I will tell you why kids should get outdoors and should stop relying on technology.

Firstly, you get more exercise. To get more exercise you could: play sport, run around the block or if you have a dog you can take it for a walk.

Secondly, you will be happier. It is scientifically proven that light can change how you’re feeling, more light means more smiles. To top that it is also scientifically proven that physical activity lowers stress levels and helps you to relax.

Lastly, you heal faster. A study shows that people healing from spinal surgery experience less stress and pain, and took fewer pain medications while exposed to natural light. An older study shows that a view out of a hospital window can change how quickly you recover (nature vs brick wall: nature wins).

So as you can see by all of the health benefits of getting outdoors you’re better off going for a bush walk than playing on your PS4.

It was really fun writing our Persuasive Writing.

Comics

Today Mr Drummond came into school to teach us about writing and drawing comics. My comic was called Iron-man but not the super hero, like the sort of iron you use for ironing, geddit. I really enjoyed making characters and the comics they were in. I found the hardest part of making comics the was showing the characters personality in the comics.

Limerick

In class we learnt about limericks. A limerick is type of funny poem, here is one I made.

There was once a man called Charles Dickens.
who had a lot  of very big chickens.
They pecked at his feet.
So he turn them into meat.
That was the end of his chickens.

Ode to Chicken pox

In class we have been making odes. An ode is a type of poem that usually dedicated to something you love but I decided to do one about something I hate!

To chicken pox
You are the baddest of all bad things
Having you is like having a swarm of mosquitoes under your skin
You are the plague
I know you are annoying me on purpose
You are evil chicken pox, how I hate you!

Life Cycle of a Little Blue Penguin

You know they’re cute, you know they’re tiny, but do you know their life cycle? That's what I’m going to explain.

Incubation Time
It all starts off with an egg not unlike the one of a chicken, 70mm long 55mm wide to be precise. A chick spends between 32 to 68 days in an egg before hatching.

Chicks
When a chick hatches it is helpless, completely blind and instead of have waterproof feathers they are cover from head to toe in fluff, you may think that is cute but have to rely on their parents to keep them alive. After a few hours they can open their eyes, lift up their head and beg for food. Their parents must go out get them food. When the parents find food they eat it, then when they get back they regurgitate it into the chick’s open mouth.

Molting
When a chick becomes a young penguin it starts molting, which means it’s fluffy non-waterproof feathers start to fall off and they start to grow waterproof adult feathers, once they have finished molting they can leave their parents.

Then this penguin will go mate with another penguin, they will lay an egg starting the the life cycle all over and again.

My Poem About the Storm

I see uprooted trees blown over by fierce winds.
I feel the icy cold temperatures.
I smell the foul smell of my sister farting in fear.
I taste my delicious breakfast.
I hear the loud booming of the thunder.
What a big storm!

Lost - a narrative story

Once upon a time there was a penguin called Jerry and a whale called Bob they were Best friends. One day they were swimming in the antarctic ocean when they noticed the water seemed to be getting warmer and that the area they were in was not familiar. They started to panic “we’re lost!” cried Jerry. In the panic they started to swim around crazily.
If that wasn’t bad enough they both crashed into some coral. Just as they came to their senses a big giant huge massive shark called Tiny came swimming along and gave chase, Bob and Jerry swam as fast as they could. After what seemed like forever Tiny gave up because the water was getting colder and colder until it was freezing. Bob and Jerry realized that they were back in the antarctic! “What was that thing” said “Bob don’t know” said Jerry “but it sure was scary”.

Memoir

In writing my class learnt about writing a memoir poem. We read one by James K Baxter called The Town. This is the one I made.

The Farm
The farm was usual enough
It had a pond, a swamp, sheep, cows and a dog.
Me, myself and I did what Otis does: made plans to kill turkeys, watched TV, ran away from cows, chased sheep and played with Phoebe the dog.
Doing nothing important.
