Sherbet Experiment

Today in class we did a science experiment. We made sherbet and tested what quantity of ingredients made the best sherbet. The ingredients we used were icing sugar, citric acid, tartaric acid and baking soda. Our first combination was 1 part icing sugar, 1 part citric acid, 1 part tartaric acid and 1 part baking soda, it was too bubbly. Our best combination was 5 part icing sugar, 0.5 part citric acid, 0.5 part tartaric acid and 0.5 part baking soda. It was really fun making sherbet and finding the best combination of ingredients.

Potato Gun Experiment

Today we did a science experiment. We made potato guns out of straws, skewers and of course potatoes. We were trying to test what angle was best for making the potato guns shot the bits of potato. The way the potato guns were meant to work was you would stab each end of the straw into the potato so that each end of the straw had had a bit of potato in it, then with the skewer push one of the bits of potato slowly so that the air pressure builds up and then after the air pressure gets to strong the other bit of potato flies out of the straw. Well that's what was meant to happen but the straws were to bendy and when they bent they weren't air tight so the air pressure couldn't build up.

beak experiment

Today we did a science experiment. We were try to test which beaks were best for which job. The way we tested this was, with different types of forceps trying to pick up different objects, including: skittles as berry's, gummy worms as worms and paper as leaves. My group prediction was that the flat forceps would be best at picking up the paper and skittles because they can get underneath the paper and skittles we also thought that pointy forceps would be best at picking up the gummy worms because they can stab them and pick them up. My groups prediction was correct! It was really fun testing the our prediction and most importantly eating the lollies.
